Kattassery Joseph Yesudas or Jesudas,(Gana Gandharvan) (Malayalam: കാട്ടശ്ശേരി ജോസഫ് യേശുദാസ്), (born January 10, 1940) is a great Indian classical musician and a playback singer. He is awarded with Padmshri (1975) and Padmabushan (2002). Yesudas sings Indian classical music, devotional and popular songs. He has recorded more than 40,000 songs in many languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Malay, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English through his long career.
Accepting the campaign ambassadorship of the march in the State at a function here on Sunday, Mr. Yesudas said that he would be involved in the activities of the peace campaign as part of the march starting from New Zealand on October 2, the International Day of Non-violence. He said that the campaign was meant to elevate human beings so that they would be free from violence.
