Tomas Hirsch, Latin American Coordinator for the WM met with Alfredo Vero, Pablo Guayasamin and Raul Perez Torres from the Guayasamin Foundation to finalise details of an important event that will take place in the Capilla del Hombre on the 19th of December, the day on which the WM Base Team will be in Quito, Ecuador. Jose Salcedo, WM Coordinator in Ecuador was also present.
In an interview, Tomas gave more details:
What is the proposal for this event?
T Hirsh: "This is one of the most relevant events of the WM, at least in Latin America. We are going to organise a discussion about the theme of mankind and what better place to do it than in Capilla del Hombre (The Chapel of Mankind), on a planet in which there are so many chapels for so many deities, that there is a Chapel of Mankind, such as this one created by Oswaldo Guaysamin here in Quito is tremendously inspirational."
Who will be invited to this discussion?
T Hirsh: "Given that humanists are organising this event, Silo, founder of the Humanist Movement has said that he will be present and will make a presentation about the theme of the human being and also the Oswaldo Guayasamin Foundation is planning to invite people such as Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Rigoberta Menchu, hopefully Miguel d'Escoto, President of the UN General Assembly and others. We'd also like to have a contribution from Saramago and also a paper from Chomsky, both of whom are individuals who are clearly committed to peace and nonviolence."
"Quito as a world centre is going to have one of the central activities of the WM," he finished. |
