Former Vice President of Ghana gives his endorsement

The former Vice President, H.E Alhaji Aliu Mahama, expressed his support in a meeting with representatives from the Organising Committee in Ghana.

The former Vice President, H.E Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has asked the people of Ghana and the world at large to condemn violence in all its forms and maintain peace for development. He said if only 10% of the nuclear arms budget were channeled into development activities, the world would become a better place to live in.

The former Vice President made these remarks when the Executives of World without Wars paid a courtesy call on him at his residence to brief him on the World March for Peace in Accra today. Mr. Mahama mentioned poverty as the enemy of the people and advised that instead of fighting among ourselves people should be fighting poverty and other vices in our society. He commended the group for this wonderful initiative and called for a united front to make this initiative a success. He mentioned awareness creation and education as means to fighting wars, crimes and nuclear arms.

The Projects Coordinator of World without Wars, Mr. Kafui Kwaku Attipoe, called for a pool of statesmen to provide counsel, guidance and direction to the youth in the fight against violence.

The West Africa Route Coordinator for the march, Mr. Paddy O’Williams also noted that the world march for peace is to create awareness and education to eliminate all forms of violence as well as to provide a platform for the voices of the innocent to be heard in the elimination of wars and violence in the world. He also said the march is to achieve the eradication of nuclear weapons.

A Switzerland based representative of World without Wars, Mr. Tom Butikofer mentioned jealousy, greed, dishonesty, racism, etc as other forms of violence which must be eliminated from our society, adding that it takes all members of society to eliminate these acts of violence. He said the March is receiving massive preparation in Switzerland and asked all peace loving Ghanaians to embrace the March come 7th November 2009 when it arrive in Ghana.
