According to the organisers, "Planting a tree is increasingly used as a symbol for peace. Women in many parts of the world, especially those with families, don't find it easy to travel to events. Planting for Peace appeals to us as something we can each do, close to our homes, and at the same time joining with others to promote peace. We don't all have our own gardens. Some are planting in community gardens, some in pots."
They want their event to catch on around the World and are asking all those who get involved to send photos of their efforts. "We will be using the photos to create online mosaics and slideshows of the peace trees. These will represent a powerful message from people throughout the world, who share a vision of finding new and humane ways to deal with conflict."
Endorsing the proposals of the World Peace March is fundamental to WFAC's principles. Women for a Change is committed to creating a caring world, through promoting empathy, trust, cooperation and reconciliation.
"Most war victims and refugees are women and children. Most victims of domestic violence are women. Most of the world's poor are women. This initiative is a simple way in which women can have a voice, and men too!"
To get involved:
If possible, plant your tree between October 2nd and 4th, and email a photo of your tree-planting to [email protected], stating the country you planted it in.
