Welcome to the World March from the stars of the talent show SuperStar, an ethnic dance troupe and Karel Gott

Czech Republic Praqa | November 03, 2009 08:33
The Czech tradition as well as stars from the Czech music world with their greatest representative, Karel Gott, welcomed to our capital the base team from the World March for Peace and Nonviolence, which arrived in Prague today from Copenhagen. Over three days, an intense program awaits the participants, which program will finish Wednesday with a multicultural Party for Peace at the capital's Venceslao Plaza.

The dozen members of the base team of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence have arrived in Prague. A traditional Czech welcome arranged by local organizers awaited them at the airport. Dressed in typical Moravian suits, the local organizers received the delegation symbolically with bread and salt. An ethnic dance troupe created the ambience for the ceremony and won the admiration of guests.

“It was the best welcome we have had so far during this month of the march. The Czechs allowed us to learn about their traditions and culture by doing this”, said Rafael de la Rubia of Spain, international spokesperson for the initiative who has been traveling with the base team since October 2, starting from New Zealand. Later, the team left for the Imperial Hotel, where they will stay these days and where a splendid reception awaits them.

The dozen “travelers”, made up by representatives of various nationalities and ethnicities, was greeted by Czech artists who support the ideal of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence, among them, the singer Karel Gott. “I really like the ideals of the World March, that’s why I’ve decided to support it, for now simply by participating in this reception”, said Karel Gott.

During the reception, the World March’s costumes were shown in a presentation by the former Miss Czech Republic Lucie Váchová, who was also host for the evening. “The World March for Peace and Nonviolence appeals to me so I’m happy to help as much as I can”, explained Váchová. Present as well were celebrities from previous years' editions of the talent show SuperStar, Zbyněk Drda and Michael Foret. This year’s finalists will participate in the Party for Peace next Wednesday.

Tomorrow, the March’s program continues with a conference on the March's subject matter at the Senate of the Czech Republic. Activities conclude Tuesday, November 3, with a multicultural Party for Peace at Venceslao Plaza, where all the participants will attempt to achieve a new karaoke record singing the song “Imagine” by John Lennon. To reach this record, the eight finalists from this year’s SuperStar competition, open to Czechs and Slovaks, will do their part. “The famous Harlem Gospel Choir, which is currently on tour in our country, is also coming”, reported Táňa Bednářová, from the Czech organizing committee.

Tuesday night, which the organizers say will be the largest demonstration for peace in Prague, will conclude by launching Thai votive lamps. “We already did it to celebrate the opening of the March on October 2 at Palacký Place, and it was truly beautiful. Tuesday, we’re going to use the lamps to illuminate the next leg of the March, which continues for two more months until reaching Argentina”, said Bednářová. The public will be able to write their wishes on the lamps, which will be lifted to the sky accompanied by the song Rainbow, especially composed in honor of the March by Jan Vlasák, member of the group Velvet Evolution.
